With Makey Makey and Sphero, elementary kids can begin their exploration into robotics, electronics, and embedded computing. With Makey Makey, students will connect electronic components to computers and other components for an introduction to microcontrollers (Program the Internet of Things!). They will create real physical devices that they can use to interact with on a computer, and program those interactions. Next, students will design games and challenges using Sphero’s programming app, as they learn to build and automate their own robots! They will learn about basic programming, understanding variables, control structures, and abstraction in this introductory course.

In this course, we will introduce the basics of circuit design in order to help your students become a robotics engineer. We will demonstrate how robots and devices can take sensory information and respond to it by performing programmable actions in our 3D world. We will be covering the very basics of electrical engineering, circuit design, and hardware debugging in this course, but some prior knowledge in coding is expected. This is a fun and unique course that explores the potential of the Arduino microcontroller. Kids can make wearables and learn about how automation is used in a million other ways such as cars, homes, and other connected devices. We're even using a WiFi component so students can take their programming to the next level, communicating between sensors, lights, speakers, and more, creating smart devices. Imagination and creativity are the keys to being great engineers, and we hope that this course provides a strong foundation to build upon in the future!

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

9-14+ Years

Learn about game design with everyone’s favorite game, Minecraft! With the ComputerCraft mod, students will explore how to automate building and creating their favorite game. In this unique course, students will set up a modded server that teaches them the LUA programming language. Students will explore loops, conditional statements, and other written programming concepts. They will automate turtles in their minecraft world to craft, build, and even create cities, letting computer programming and automation do all the heavy lifting.
